Do you consider the ending of the novel (That Deadman Dance) pessimistic? Discuss

In my opinion, the ending of the Novel ‘That Deadman Dance’ by Kim Scott is very fitting given the context of the text as a whole and the events which it is touching upon. Though it may be quite a morbid ending, it highlights the true injustices which had befallen the Indigenous peoples both within the text and those who had welcomed The First Fleet. It is clear that Scott was alluding to an ending which highlighted the prejudice shown towards our nations indigenous peoples in order to further develop the readers understanding of the horrors experienced by the first Australians. In addition, it is of my own opinion that in order for the ending to be pessimistic then the events described after Bobby has made his final dance and song must be fiction, or to some extent, much less barbaric than the events which followed, both in the novel and in history.
